Tee Off for a Greener Iowa -- Golf Outing to benefit Growing Green Communities and Keep Iowa Beautiful --
DES MOINES, Iowa (August 9, 2005) – Two organizations, Growing Green Communities and Keep Iowa Beautiful, both focused on creating community pride by decreasing litter, beautifying the landscape and protecting water quality, have teamed up to promote the idea of conservation communities during their “Tee Off for a Greener Iowa” golf outing, scheduled for Thursday, September 1, 2005 at Woodland Hills Golf Course.
As the event sponsor, Hubbell Realty Company will be part of the event to offer golfers an opportunity to learn more about the Conservation Communities Hubbell Realty Company is developing throughout the Central Iowa region.
“We know people want to be surrounded by natural landscapes,” explains Tom Hadden, Growing Green Communities chairperson. “That’s why you find so many developments popping up along lakes and wooded areas.”
By using the conservation-type practices, residential developments can still provide the natural landscapes buyers like, but use techniques that reduce the amount of hard surfaces and utilize plants and flowers to absorb water on-site, improving water quality and providing a greater sense pride in the neighborhood.
“We are proud to be leading the way with this new mindset in Iowa,” said Rick Tollakson, president of Hubbell Realty Company. “We have put a great deal of time and effort into creating developments that preserve and protect the natural environment.”
Woodland Hills Golf Course was recently purchased by Hubbell Realty Company and will eventually become a premier Conservation Community. “This means that the much of the golf course will remain open for recreational activities such as biking, hiking and walking – it’s a great way to develop an area that may not have otherwise been used as a golf course,” added Tollakson.
To play in the golf outing, interested golfers can call 515-238-0609. Tee times for the golf outing begin at 1:00 pm, and costs $80 per person. All proceeds go to Growing Green Communities and Keep Iowa Beautiful.
