Hubbell Realty Company Purchases Woodland Hills Golf Course
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (February 11, 2005) – Hubbell Realty Company announced today the 186-acre purchase of Woodland Hills Golf Course in Polk County from Woodland Hills LLC. The driving range and area to the northeast known as the par 3 are not included in the sale, which is scheduled to close on February 28.
“It is our intent to keep all twenty-seven holes open this season,” states Rick Tollakson, President and CEO for Hubbell Realty Company. “All golf outings that have been scheduled to date will proceed as planned. We will also keep the management team at Woodland Hills intact.”
Hubbell Realty Company hopes to develop parts of the site into a Conservation Community, a low-impact housing development designed to incorporate restored native prairie communities and natural storm water management systems. Hubbell Realty is the first to introduce Conservation Communities to Central Iowa, with grading expected to begin this spring on Danamere Farms in Carlisle, Meadowlark South in Grimes and Glynn Village in Waukee.
“We are still in the early stages of the planning process at Woodland Hills,” states Tollakson. “There are a number of issues to be resolved on the timing and how the site will be developed.”
Woodland Hills Golf Course first opened in 1928 and has remained a privately owned public golf course throughout its seventy-seven year history. The course has nine holes on the south side of NE 66th Avenue and 18 holes to the north. According to Kathy Nichols, General Manager of Woodland Hills, the golf course sees an average of 350 golfers per day during the regular season. The course is home to fifteen men’s and women’s leagues, with 20 – 220 players in an individual league. It is a walk-on golf course with tee times accepted on holidays and weekends for the north 18 holes.
